Eclipse Unnerves Local Flora, Fauna in Key West

This image of the total eclipse of the moon, photographed from a rooftop in Key West, ushered in the winter solstice.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth blocks the sun’s rays from the face of the moon. The moon is then fully in the shadow cast in space by the Earth.

Cats all around were seen on roofs, climbing trees, confused.

Binky stares down, determined to stay put until it was over.

The eclipse made this amaryllis nervous enough to speed up blooming in a futile effort to reproduce before the cold set in. Luckily enough we brought it inside where it was safe and warm.

Then, just as suddenly, it was over and all were happy to discover that it was just another glorious day in Key West.

They banded together to discuss what had happened. Everyone had an opinion . . .

Mr Surly came back – down from the roof . . .

And Christmas was on, again.
