December Garden

I just did a small garden clean-up and planting to usher in 2011. I still have to take out the leaf blower to tidy up. I hate using it but there is no other way to clean up the granite gravel pathways.

The garden is an eclectic mix of formal, wild, native and foreign. Just like me! I just planted these purple kale in a formal semi-circle around the Satin tree.  I hope the purple centers expand.

I transplanted these neon bromiliads because they were burning in the sun and I like the way they look next to the tall impatiens.

My bronze ( also transplanted) peacock looks fabulous and much happier in the midst of flowers.

The magnificent triple planted white and blush Phaleonopsis Danny brought me for Christmas holds vigil by the doorway.

Scotch Bonnet peppers with many offspring. Yay!

Another pepper variety that I grew from seed is about to flower. They have taken a long time to flourish – about 3 months.  I think these peppers will be  small, hot and purple.

Close up . . .

A gorgeous reblooming orphan (unnamed) orchid that I have had for about a year. He has another stalk so he must be happy with me.

My Christmas cactus drama queen who will make me wait until well into January before  blooming. Smart girl, she didn’t want to share the stage with Poinsettias, Amaryllis. She is a gorgeous hot pink with orange tendrils. I love the rebloomers!

Speaking of which – another latenik! This time an Amaryllis.

I couldn’t resist these bright heat resistant Geraniums. I put three of them in this pot for instant pop!

Long purple eggplants keep on coming.

And the white ones, too . . .

My ongoing winter harvest makes me feel lucky and grateful. Happy New Year!
