{"id":5014,"date":"2012-05-14T14:18:43","date_gmt":"2012-05-14T14:18:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/argyle.org\/?p=5014"},"modified":"2012-05-14T14:18:43","modified_gmt":"2012-05-14T14:18:43","slug":"whats-blooming-my-key-west-garden-in-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/argyle.org\/?p=5014","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s Blooming  &#8211; My Key West Garden in May"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s great to head outside, write my morning papers anytime of the year and check out what&#8217;s blooming all year long.<\/p>\n<p>I have a tiny place but have discovered that orchids bloom all year long, each\u00a0 variety has its own season.<\/p>\n<p>I got this as a bareroot plant from a Thai orchid dealer at Redlands two years ago and he seems to be happy with me. Delicate &amp; gorgeous.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1661.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5015\" title=\"IMG_1661\" src=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1661-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a dendrobium that my friend Danny bought me three years ago. He was looking pretty wan a while back &#8211; but now . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1667.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5017\" title=\"IMG_1667\" src=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1667-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a close up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1668.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5018\" title=\"IMG_1668\" src=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1668-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Eggplants do really well here. These are young, Violette de Firenze.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1659.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5024\" title=\"IMG_1659\" src=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1659-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a close up &#8211; they haven&#8217;t started blooming yet, but the leaves are beautifully veined and healthy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1660.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5025\" title=\"IMG_1660\" src=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1660-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m also growing three varieties of tomatoes. This is Chapman, gorgeously convoluted, just like the package promised.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1665.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5027\" title=\"IMG_1665\" src=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1665-168x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"168\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I love to grow from seed, open pollinated, unusual varieties, all in pots because I have a small yard.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1666.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5028\" title=\"IMG_1666\" src=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1666-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a close up of the tomatoes on this plant, named Tie-Dye. How could I resist a tomato with a name like Tie-Dye. Impossible!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1664.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5029\" title=\"IMG_1664\" src=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_1664-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And another variety, the Golden German Queen, flowering in close-up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_0097.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5038\" title=\"IMG_0097\" src=\"https:\/\/argyle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_0097-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Swiss chard is not as crazy about the heat but doing well so far.
