Last Saturday I taught an Embellished Crazy Tote class at our local quilt store, the Seam Shoppe<\/a> on Truman Ave in Key West.<\/p>\n

Here are a couple of samples in the store.<\/p>\n

I love teaching this class. It’s fast, fun and you get to leave with a finished product.<\/p>\n

Cory was just about at the finish line when class ended. I expect to see her sashaying around town with this sometime soon.<\/p>\n

Check out this truly eccentric handmade cotton print – the one on top.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Students choose two colors including a\u00a0 piece of Dupioni silk for the front right right corner and I choose all the rest. Sometimes – especially with the more particular – they choose a second fabric – but that’s where I draw the line because the whole point of the class is to work with fabrics and colors\/design out of your own comfort zone.<\/p>\n

We had some of the finest designers in key west – Jean who is the go to girl in Key West for all things sewing. She teaches many classes at the Seam Shoppe.<\/p>\n

I get to choose fabrics from the Seam Shoppe here in Key West. They are known for quality upholstery work and a wide selection of quilters fabrics specialty tropical colors and motifs. Click here for Seam Shoppe Class Calendar.<\/a><\/p>\n

Here are some of the more unusual fabrics I like to add. Japanese silk and African polished cotton.<\/p>\n

Assorted nonsense.<\/p>\n

I added my favorite thread to the mix. Shimmer & metallic.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And some embroidery thread for color contrast & ease of use.<\/p>\n

Seam Shoppe has wonderful embellishment, ribbons . . .<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Buttons, closures . .<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Here’s a truly international tote in the making. Mary’s tote-in-the-works includes European silk brocade, American cotton, Japanese cotton, Chinese silk brocade, Dupioni silk and a strange upholstery strip of mixed provenance!<\/p>\n

Multi-colored thread that has no business working so well together.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Free-motion quilting in high contrast thread. This is done in a small area so even if you are not proficient, you get to practice.<\/p>\n

We build panels, piece by piece.<\/p>\n

Until it’s done. Elishea was the only one who actually finished. yay Elishea!<\/p>\n
